Copyright Office: Cable Should Lose Special Local Access

Cable and satellite broadcasters have long relied on a special set of three narrow statutory licenses that Congress gave them years ago to help prop up the pay-TV industry in its infancy. The licenses allow the pay-TV providers to grab certain over-the-air signals from local broadcasters or from far-off “superstations” without asking permission.

The Congressional carve-outs were about more than creating competition, though; they were also about supporting localism, as much of the rest of the programming on cable and satellite was national.

Sony has Removed Firmware 2.40 from servers until fixed.

SCEA has removed firmware 2.40, released early this morning, from its update servers. Users attempting to use the System Update feature from the PS3 XMB from firmware prior to 2.40 are now being told that their software is up to date.
